Leave some cucumber slices or peels overnight around kitchen counters and cabinets or near sinks and crevices where roaches may be especially active. Cucumbers are excellent roach repellents and are a non toxic, organic way of getting rid of these pests. You may also use cucumber along with bay leaves to ward off pesky roaches.
The best containers for storing food are made of hard glass and metal. Plastic works too, just make sure it’s in good shape. You have no control over the cleanliness of your neighbors, so sealing up even the tiniest of cracks is worth the effort. But if you’re serious about preventing another roach infestation, you need to take a few permanent steps.

However, they are not good for humans either so it is important to keep them away from children. But nothing is more effective at keeping bugs outside than window screens and screen doors. It's important to treat the nest as well as killing roaches on site. Depending on the temperature and their size, they can live for a month without any food, but no more than a week without water.
